Midlands Music Festival Looking For Local Opening Act

Does your band have what it takes to open Midlands

30th April 2007

Midlands Music Festival (and local media partners the Westmeath Examiner Group) is looking for a band or solo act who has what it takes to play alongside the cream of the country, folk and roots at the second Midlands Music Festival.

The Westmeath Examiner and Midlands 103 have joined forces with the promoters of Mildands in their search for a midlands-based act, to win the fantastic opportunity to open the festival on Saturday 28th July. Ten finalists will be chosen to go forward to a grand final, to be held at the Mullingar Arts Centre, where one lucky winner will be chosen.

In addition to opening the festival, the winning band will also receive recording time at the world famous Grouse Lodge Studio facility and top-of-the range musical equipment from Rochfort's Music Store.

Entries are currently being accepted in CD format at the Examiner's Mullingar Office, c/o Ronan Casey, Arts Editor, Westmeath Examiner Group, Dominick Place, Mullingar, Co Westmeath.

Considered one of the best contemporary music festivals last summer, the pioneering Midlands Music Festival was the first of its kind in Europe with a stellar line up that was truly aimed at festival-goers of all ages. This year's festival promises to be even better with an even further diverse mix of music, keeping the country element for which it's famous, but also extending the musical reach, and an extra designed area for kids.

The festival has something for everyone and alongside some of the worlds' greatest musical acts, it offers all manner of side attractions and entertainment for all the family. And now one lucky midlands act will be there too!

Speaking about the partnership, Westmeath Examiner Director of Operations Frank Mulrennan commented "The Examiner Group of newspapers becomes the first provincial newspaper group in the country to roll in behind such a festival, and as the regions number one choice we are sure the partnership will prove to be a big hit for everybody".

The second Midlands Music Festival will take place over two days and nights with the legendary triumvirate of Christy Moore, Kris Kristofferson and Glen Campbell. In addition Steve Earle, The Waterboys, Paul Brady, Aimee Mann, Richard Thompson, Mundy, Gillian Welch, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, The Hillbilly All-Stars, Hothouse Flowers, Blind Boys of Alabama and many more will appear across the festival's numerous stages.

Midlands Music Festival takes place 28th and 29th July 2007, at Belvedere House, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath
