160 acres of magnificent estate with 160 acres of parkland and lakeshore
walks, it has instant accessibility to numerous hotels and B&Bs on
its doorstep, for those who prefer a bed to a camping !
The story behind Belvedere, is as exciting as this years line up and
has all the ingredients of a best selling novel, with tales of tyranny,
social scandal, cruelty, sibling rivalry, jealousy, adultery and imprisonment.
The first Earl of Belvedere, Robert Rochfort married 16 year old Mary
Molesworth and after siring four children in four years, locked her
up for thirty one years accusing her of adultery with his younger brother.
The building of the celebrated and spectacular ‘Jealous Wall’ was
conceived out of intense sibling rivalry when the wicked earl became
consumed with jealousy as another brother George built a much bigger
house close by to Belvedere. The wonderful parkland is full of features
designed to illicit surprise and illusion from the visitor and lends
itself perfectly to hosting Music Festivals.
Considered one of the best contemporary music festivals last summer,
Midlands was the first of its kind in Europe with a stellar line up
of some of the worlds’ country greats and entertainment for all the
family .This years festival promises to be even better with an even more
diverse mix of music, keeping the country element for which its famous,
but also extending the musical reach, and even more facities for kiddies.
And of course Under 12’s go free.
