LambchopNashville is a city central to the evolution of country music, and has, at various times, been home to the greats of the genre, from Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris, to Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, and Tammy Wynette. There is a younger generation of musicians at play in Nashville too, reinventing what country music can be by coalescing its traditional elements with rock, gospel and electronic music. Kurt Wagner's Lambchop is very the inspiring force of this generation. Their line-up of musicians and instruments has constantly morphed throughout the years and features over dozen members on occasions. But at the heart of it all, wearing a hearty smile and a sturdy truckers cap, is Kurt Wagner. Throughout his twelve-year career to date he has made tender and downbeat piano music and full-on gospel country. He has worked on electronica collaborations and made a concept album about giving up smoking. He is one of the most influential and challenging American performers of the nineties and beyond.
