Aimee Mann
After making a name for herself as the wild-haired lead singer of the
'80s new-wave band 'Til Tuesday, Aimee Mann spent years carving out an
iconoclastic career in pop music's margins. Her unforgettable contributions
to the Magnolia soundtrack gave her an audience to match her exhaustion
with the music industry, and she soon set about self-releasing her material
while remaining commercially viable.
Subsequent albums include last year's critically lauded The Forgotten
Arm and 2002's Lost in Space. Mann's new disc, a collection of holiday
songs titled One More Drifter in the Snow, features bittersweet readings
of holiday classics like "Winter Wonderland" and "The Christmas
Song," as well as a couple of fine original songs.
